A collaboration with Jean-Marie Fahy
Le Jeu du Foulard is a square scarf, screenprinted, 94x94 cm, and meant
to be worn as a hijab. At first sight, the
organic pattern seems to be only ornemental but it actually offers a visualization of the areas mainly touched by islamophobic acts in France. The inside reveals a sample of the stories published by the
CCIF (Collectif contre l’islamophobie en France). The map grid appearing on both sides of the hijab allows the localisations of each event onto the French territory.
January 2015 represents a turn in the
relation between France and Islam.
The terrorist acts committed against the members of the Charlie Hebdo newspaper are the source of an increasingly important stigmatization of Muslims in France. Islamophobia can be defined as the fear or a pejorative perception of
Islam, Muslims, and everything in relation.
Le Jeu du Foulard questions and underlines an invisible border that the French society created and reinforces day after day. We denounce the conflation made up between religion and radicalization.
